In our Ward, everyone is invited to participate in the Pinewood Derby. Doug built a car with his 11-year old Scouts. Kaitlyn wanted to make a car too, but instead of getting her own car, Doug told her that she could paint and decorate the car the way she wanted. She chose pink with sparkles, of course.
She really enjoyed painting the car a lovely shade of Pepto-Bismol pink.
I added the black lines and number 4. At the Derby, the Cub Scouts raced by themselves, then got some awards. Then the racing was open to everyone else. On a trial run, Kaitlyn's pink wonder didn't even make it to the end of the track. Doug tweaked it and the car made it across the finish line. When it came time for the real races, her car didn't do too bad. It never made 1st, but was always in 2nd or 3rd place. Kaitlyn was disappointed it didn't win, but maybe next year we'll be better prepared.
After the awards were given for 1st place, etc., the Young Women in the Ward gave out other, made-up awards. Kaitlyn got the "Miss Barbie" Award. I think it made Kaitlyn feel a little bit better about not winning the race. Chocolate can always soothe the disappointed soul, right?
